For moving image we were required to compose a two minute fashion film for Topshop inspired by the 1980's. My film 'Black and white' focuses on the racial difficulties and mixed opinion at the time particularly seen in skin head cults. I wanted to incorporate historical aspects of the era through the use of projections on the body and also the progression of time which can be seen through the second location of a transport system. I felt this also brought a modern and contemporary feel to the film.
Through the use of location, models, styling, sound, hair and makeup I insured my film was current and accessible to Topshops current target market and outgoing exciting style.

- Concept
The projections help to convey the 80’s influence and add more context and awareness to the film.
Set in the modern day
Transportation and movement in time is explored through the physical movement in the film. Glasgow tube station also uses fluorescent lights which could potentially lead to interesting visual effects added later at during the editing process. I plan to add a black and white effect to also explore the time period of the 80’s and create a bit more historic reference. The black and white effect also relates to the idea of newspapers and fact which I would like to convey in my projection scenes with records from the 80’s seen.

Models
I have chosen to use blank canvas new faces as models as I want to have a fresh and youthful approach to my film. Both models study drama so I know they will feel confident in front of the camera which is essential to the success of my film.
The models also reflect the type of girls who would purchase the range I am showcasing for Topshop. This is important as the target market have to see themselves wearing the clothing in order to then buy it.
I have chosen two girls as I want to convey the cult feeling of friendship that is not sexual.
Grinderman is an alternative rock band from london. Members are Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos. The song “U.L.I.K.E Hyper Worm Tamer” was released on the 22nd of November 2010.
I chose this soundtrack because I wanted to incorporate the idea of working with current music that has the influence of the 80s style. I wanted a hard hitting strong backing to my film as it adds depth and makes the film more memorable. It also creates a
The heavy beat and strong rhythm should allowed me to cut and edit my film to the beat creating a catchy and more effective film. Although this music will result in more editing I feel it is necessary to appeal to a younger audience and also to reflect the style of music in the 80’s.
Edit
I plan to use imovie to edit my film. I feel it is important to achieve a flow between my studio and location shots which will require a little bit more attention whilst editing. I will also need to make sure my music is consistent with the film and that is emphasizes the action.
Credits will be featured at the end briefly to give recognition to the models, make-up artists and the sound track that has been used. I wish to keep this minimal which shouldn't be a problem because not many people will be involved in production.
As previously explained I plan to use a black and white effect to relate to the historic influence of the film. The skin heads were known to be stereotypically racist so the black and white edit relates to the theme of skin colour and contrast. The effect also creates some drama and tension which makes the film seem more exciting and atmospheric. Newspapers are printed in black and white relating to the idea of fact and truth.
